Lessons learned the first 50 years

I hit a milestone. I turned 50 years old. I am thankful that I don't feel 50.   I am thankful for things God has taught me throughout those 50 years. .  I have learned that God loves mercy and when I feel a sense that justice needs to happen over mercy, all I need to do is remember that I am thankful for when God gives me mercy instead of a just punishment.   (Micah 6:8 8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.) ( Luke 6: 36  Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. ) I have learned that hurt people end up hurting people.   When I am able to see that I didn't hurt them but I am bearing the results of that persons hurt inflicted by other people, it helps me forgive whatever hurt they pushed onto me and move on.  (Romans 12 : 18  If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. )  I have learned that anyone who thinks they have God

Why Americans should be ANTI-Horse Slaughter?

Horse Slaughter?  Why should you care or have an opinion on this subject?  Well, how would you feel about seeing 20 dogs shoved into a tight cage being shipped to slaughter.  It already happens in other countries.  (I could google and show you many photos, but I will save your the horror).  Why is it a horror?  Because we KNOW that dogs are pets, capable of giving love, receiving love, and forming strong bonds with each other and with us.  Guess what?  A horse is the SAME!   I will share just ONE story of the horses at Save The Horses in Cumming, GA that demonstrates that so well.   Trudy came to the rescue over ten years ago.  The person that had her had bound her in barbwire and dragged her.  Rightly so, she was petrified ...  You can read her entire story here. http://inhonoroftheking.blogspot.com/2012/03/through-trudys-eyes-her-rescue.html

Then, there is Sweetie, the oldest mare at Save The Horses.  Even though Sweetie hasn’t ever given birth to a foal, she has adopted and loved many.   The last foal, Patience, was adopted to a new home when she was about 15 months or so... 15 months or so, of Sweetie calling for her when it was time for Patience to come in.  15 months of Sweetie sleeping outside of Patience’s stall.   15 months of her following Patience in and out.  It was obvious that she loves Patience.   Then, when it was time for Patience to go to her new home, Sweetie searched for her.  She would stand outside and cry for her .. She hunted for her.  When she realized she was gone, she grieved.  You could see her go thorough  deep sadness and deep anger.   Now, she has done something great in her grief.  She is befriending Trudy.  Trudy is blind and is not able to  read  the body language of other horses, due to her lack of sight.  She has more than a few bite marks to her face, because she doesn’t realize she is challenging some of the horses by not backing up.  She can’t see the “challenge” of the other horses.  Patience’s stall was two stalls down from Trudy.   After a couple of months of Patience being gone,  Sweetie moved down..and she now stands in front of Trudy’s stall to protect her from the other horses.    (After all, no one will mess with a strong, wise older woman.... or horse).

Sweetie follows Trudy out..and follows Trudy in.  Why?  Because horses are able to show compassion, just like a dog.  A horse is able to have strong relationship-bonds...just like a dog.

Some estimate 100,000 live horses are shipped to Canadian and Mexican slaughterhouses each year, and the meat is sold in Belgium, France and other countries.  Some view horse slaughter as a necessary evil, to humanely dispose of unwanted horses.  Unlike dogs and cats, unwanted horses cannot be dropped off at the local animal shelter. Sanctuaries for horses do exist, but there are not enough of them; all the more reasons to support Save The Horses.org.   Some argue that the alternative to horse slaughter is neglect and abandonment.   I say Americans are more compassionate than that.  I say Americans are more intelligent than that.  I say Americans don’t give up and give in to a “necessary evil”, as there is always a way NOT to be a part of this evil and stop it.    I believe due to the horse’s  intellect, horse slaughter is unusually cruel. Some of  the horses are  stolen from the humans that love them.   Then, they are beaten with sticks, shocked, transported without rest or water, shoved into kill chutes, terrorized and injured by captive bolts or guns , hung by their legs while they are still alive and sold by the pound when they are dead.
As  Americans, we must stand against the immorality of reducing one of the most magnificent creatures on the face of the earth to a package of meat. The horse has served man like no other animal.  (Watch War Horse if you don’t get this?   Go talk to someone that has a horse companion.  Go touch and see Trudy and Sweetie).   Horses have been run and fought and shown and worked to death for the vanity of man.  So horse slaughter is a “necessary evil”  or just plain evil?    Their logic is illogical. They say we have a potential perpetrator (one who might abuse a horse) and a potential victim (the horse). The answer offered by the pro-slaughter forces is to kill the potential victim (horse)  so that the potential perpetrator can't perpetrate.  Come on, America. This isn’t who we are!

For those who call yourselves followers of Christ, you need to keep in mind the first commandment God gave man:  Genesis 1:28 28 And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.

We are to CARE for the earth and the animals, not allow greed to allow harm to His creatures.

  1. Thank you for expressing your thoughts. Horses should be honored. Slaughter is no way to end the life of an ever so willing servant.

  2. Sadly, if Americans can't see the horror in the slaughter of unborn babies, I can't see them caring about this either... and no offense (because I am an animal lover), but if they did care more about the horses, than babies, that would be sad as well. I agree man's responsibility is to care for the creatures and manage them wisely. As tender as I am to animals, I know that God has His eye on them as well as us. "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Luke 12:6–7)."
Thank you for sharing your caring heart. I look forward to meeting those horses someday real soon.

  3. Vicki,
Yes, Man is the ONLY one made in God's image, so of course abortion is wrong. I am so thankful that my daughter's birth mother chose life.
I am for protecting ALL of those who can't protect themselves.
