Lessons learned the first 50 years

I hit a milestone. I turned 50 years old. I am thankful that I don't feel 50.   I am thankful for things God has taught me throughout those 50 years. .  I have learned that God loves mercy and when I feel a sense that justice needs to happen over mercy, all I need to do is remember that I am thankful for when God gives me mercy instead of a just punishment.   (Micah 6:8 8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.) ( Luke 6: 36  Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. ) I have learned that hurt people end up hurting people.   When I am able to see that I didn't hurt them but I am bearing the results of that persons hurt inflicted by other people, it helps me forgive whatever hurt they pushed onto me and move on.  (Romans 12 : 18  If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. )  I have learned that anyone who thinks they have God

Duck Dynasty- or the Drunk Dynasty??

So did you see today's news? Since Duck Dynasty, which is a company that sells duck calls (who happens to be believers with a "reality TV show"), has now decided to sell and market a brand of wine, Family Ministries has dropped them as a speaker at their conference.  Why?  They said that they didn't want people that drink wine to speak because they want the attending teens of this conference to be non-drinkers.

The full article can be read here.  .http://www.tricities.com/news/local/article_bfd2b520-4b3f-11e3-ac7e-0019bb30f31a.html.                but here is one quote:

Our greatest responsibility is to the young people we serve. Therefore, we feel that in light of the recent news that the stars of the show ‘Duck Dynasty’ are partnering with Trinchero Family Estates to launch Duck Commander Wines, to continue with this event would send mixed messages to the young people who go through our adolescent drug and alcohol program,” Family Ministries development director Derek Bell said in a written statement.

Well, following this logic, I am sure that none of their speakers are married, because just like people over 21 are allowed to have a glass of wine, married people are allowed to have sex,................. and if teenagers see people who are married ( and know these people have sex), then those teens will not abstain and they will have sex before marriage.  This is their logic...      Really?      Again.... why do we tie on these laws and burdens to one another?

Do we not have communion in our churches with REAL wine?   So is this the message we want to send.???.. if you enjoy an occasional glass of wine, you are not a good Christian? Is that the message here?

Do we believe God wants us to be No-Fun, rigid, joyless, serious people? Did Jesus not attend parties?  Yes, he did!

Did God not choose His words carefully when calling man to write down His word, the Bible?  Of course He did!   Well, was God wrong when He inspired Song Of Solomon 1: 2 which says: - Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth-- for your love is more delightful than wine?
(That implies wine is good;  He didn't say it is more delightful than broccoli).  :)

So, just in case you think I am just trying to support my habit of drinking wine,.. well... I  might have a glass of wine once a year or less.  Why?   Because it is sinful??  No! Because... It taste like cough syrup to me.... just not my thing.  Beer?  That's a whole different story.  Again, get drunk?  No!   Have a glass?  Yes!   Let's not put unnecessary burdens (Matt 23: 3-5/ Luke 11)  on one another.. as..... that helps no one!

Matthew 23:3-5 so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,[a] and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by others.

Luke 11:45-47  45 One of the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying these things you insult us also.” 46 And he said, “Woe to you lawyers also! For you load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. 47 Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed.

Let me be clear!   God says don't get drunk.   (Ephesians 5:17-18)17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.  Luke 21: 34 “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.

Just as God says don't be a glutton ... don't eat too much,. (Luke 7:34/ Matt 11:19).... God says don't drink too much..       We don't tell people not to eat at all....  We just say to not eat too much!

Jesus chose  to change water into wine as his first miracle.
(John 2:1–11) Was Jesus promoting sin?  No!   Was Jesus sinning by making wine?  Of course not!  Did God not really mean the word "wine"  in John 2?   One commentary said of John 2: 10 -------

it was not only "the good wine" … until now—thus testifying, while ignorant of the source of supply, not only that it was real wine, but better than any at the feast.

Paul told Timothy to drink a little wine.   1 Timothy 5:23     23 (No longer drink only water, but luse a little wine mfor the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.)   So, the man God used to write most of the New Testament, Paul, was he wrong?  Did Paul not hear God correctly? Of course not!

So why do we think the Duck Dynasty are suddenly the Drunk Dynasty?   One very wise and very handsome man  (my husband) once said, "People are crazy-stupid."    Lately,  I would say a lot of those are Christians.... who aren't representing Him well.

So, was it just this company that responded with a judgmental attitude towards Willie and the rest?  Here  are a few of those "tweets" out there today..

I knew this was a problem as soon as I saw the first advertisement.

I'm afraid they have lost their focus...

Come on, people!   This is not how to represent our God of grace and love....

More Verses to consider
