Ephesians Week 6

Ephesians 5   5  1  Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children   2  and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. 3  But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.   4  Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.   5  For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. [ a ]   6  Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.   7  Therefore do not be partners with them. 8  For you were once darkness, but now you are light i...

Why does God allow horrible things to happen ?

Image
I haven't been blogging as much because I have had little down time.  We have  had snow storms in Georgia, doctors appointments, sick friends, etc.   I still have a drive to show people God's goodness... in the mist of the troubles of this world and to document daily life.  I read this question given to William Craig Lane and strongly felt it needed to be read by everyone.   Some people have told me things like... I don't think I could trust God if He allowed me to loose a child in utero..  I don't think I could believe in God if my child was born with NF (neurofibromatosis).  I say, Where else can I go?   My hope is found in Him alone.  William Craig Lane does a great job of answering this common question.  God’s Permitting Horrific Evils Dr. Craig I have attempted on several occasions to have you explain the following . 1) How can a maximally great being possibly have a "sufficient" reason to allow things such as the rape...

The Power of His Unfailing Love

Surgery is tomorrow.  The doctors say he will be in surgery for about an hour.  When John-Michael got the diagnosis 6 years ago of Neurofibromatosis, I was already a believer...     I was already seeking His face.  I was already teaching His word in my home to other women.  I didn't understand why He would do this to me.  I had absorbed bad theology.  "Bad things aren't allowed into the lives of obedient believers".  The more I study in His word.. the more I see that this isn't true.   Consider Isaiah 43:1-2: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. This passage contains a promise, but not the one my flesh wants to see. It is not ...

Where is God when bad things happen?

Image
Where is God when bad things happen?  You only have to turn on the news to hear about a shooting at a movie theater.    More?   Just yesterday..a shooting at a temple.   People who don't think of God day to day may quickly ask "How could that happen?"..   People who do call themselves Christians might question "Where is God in that?"    This has been a bit of a debate even at the church where we are attending.   What can you do to answer your questions  1. Search God's word.   2. Pray   3. Seek the insight of other believers.     When we search God's word, we have to search with the right mind set.  If you search, make sure you don't search with the attitude that you only want to consider the verses that uphold what you already believe to be true.   Search the vastness of His word.   He says in 2 Timothy 3 that.. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correct...

Shearing us..because He Loves us...

Did you know that sheep must be sheared for its own good? Why? They are easily cast down when they have MUCK all tangled in their fleece, weighing them down. Why is this a problem? If a sheep is cast down, a s heep can not get up on its own . If they fall down..become “cast down”, they must have a shepherd to lift them up or they will die. ' Cast down' sheep is an old English shepherd's term for a sheep that has turned over on its back and cannot get up again by itself. A 'cast' sheep is a very pathetic sight. Lying on its back, its feet in the air, it flays away frantically struggling to stand up, without success. And guess what? A sheep can not help another sheep get up. ..they must have a shepherd to help them up. (just like I can’t heal you or help you, but I can take you to Jesus, the good shepherd who can). So what is the remedy to keep from being cast down ? A good sheering... (We don’t like when “bad” things (our sheering) happen to us, ...

Calm through the Storm...

Going through an especially trying time?   Are you about ready to pull your hair out..or someone else’s hair out?   LOL... What do we do?   Give thanks…   I know, I know..what are you talking about, Rachel?     Consider this verse.. Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. —Ephesians 5:15-21 “Giving thanks always and for everything” is pretty clear. What should we be thankful for? Everything. Even the situations that may be stirring my...

Feeling like Pâté

Image
Pâté ( French pronunciation: [pÉ‘te] ; UK: /ˈpæteɪ/ , US: /pɑˈteɪ/ ) is a mixture of cooked ground meat and fat minced into a spreadable paste. Trust has always been an issue for me.  ...  My distrust of God's plan and love for me used to be strong.  I am so much better about knowing God's word and knowing His character that when daily life isn't so daily... or just isn't easy... I am usually..  able to quickly state the truth (He is slow to anger/ abounding in love)..and go on with life.  This week..it has been much more difficult.  I discovered John-Michael has two fibromas on his arm and two pecan sized fibromas by or on his spine.  The pea-sized ones on his back are now gumball sized.  John-Michael is growing...and with his body makes growth hormone...this happens.   His next Mri isn't until June.  I refuse to loose my joy and waste my time worrying.  It isn't good for John-Michael, me, or anyone else in my family. ...

Update on John-Michael

http://inhonoroftheking.blogspot.com/2011/01/into-his-hands.html Here was our annual update from one of his specialists... http://inhonoroftheking.blogspot.com/2011/07/battle-scars.html Here is the scar from his surgery last month...and the report.. http://inhonoroftheking.blogspot.com/2011/03/linda-dillow-part-4-final-part-hardest.html Here is where I TRY to place John-Michael...out of my hands..into HIS.. Thursday was not an easy day.  We went back to see the surgeon and he said the biopsy on the 2nd tumor was a plexiform (the more invasive kind).  I figured it was..because the surgeon said the tissue looked like it when he was cutting in out...  The problem...he has a lot... 40 or so..more that might be plexiform fibromas.  I showed him one on his shoulder that has grown from pea size to marble size in the last two months.  He said it was probably a plexiform but we should just watch it for now. Pray for him.  Pray for me.  As his mama, i...

Why are we suprised by suffering?

Image
Why do think we, as Christians, shouldn't suffer or   why are we SURPRISED that we  do  suffer?   I know I am put out..when God allows me to suffer.   In case any of you thought I am spiritually-mature...well, that just set you straight... LOL...  Seriously, I often times think..."I am serving you, I am seeking you, I want to please you,...so WHY?"   Why does John-Michael have tumors?   Why do people fight?  Why do my children not do what I have "trained" them to do?    Why do my children still need to be parented? LOL    Why do I have moments of deep grief?    Why has someone opened the gate and caused my mother-in law's westies to run away?   Why do YOU not protect us from these sorrows?  Is it a sin issue?  Maybe, but I do not know of any  of my unconfessed sin... God knows them all....  But, we know HE uses our sorrows to m...

John-Michael's surgery is tomorrow/ My weird dream

Image
Tomorrow John-Michael has the surgery to debulk the tumor by his spine and to remove one from his rear end.   Please remember to pray for wisdom and skill for Dr. Joseph Williams.   Pray for John-Michael not to be afraid.   He nearly puked and passed out when he watched his IV be removed a few weeks ago.      Please pray that his nerve isn’t damaged and he maintains complete use of his legs.   Please pray for the cyst inside his spinal cord to dissolve/ disappear.   Please pray for no new tumors to form. Please pray that there is no paralysis from this tumor or future tumors.   Please pray that his pain is minimal.   Please pray for him to keep his trust in God’s goodness, a struggle for me at times.    Last night, I had another dream.   I think God often speaks to me in dreams because I am just ADHD enough not to listen during the day. J   I dreamt I was at Beth’s house and she said, “ I just saw a water   Moc...
