Ephesians Week 6

Ephesians 5   5  1  Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children   2  and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. 3  But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.   4  Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.   5  For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. [ a ]   6  Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.   7  Therefore do not be partners with them. 8  For you were once darkness, but now you are light i...

His Unfailing Love

Image
I have been asking God to SHOW me that He loves ME.....and He will take care of ME!  I know these things intellectually, but life circumstances can keep me from feeling these truths.  So I prayed "God, show me you love me and will take care of me". I waited..... Nothing!  The next day, I prayed, "God show me that you love me and will take care of me." Again, nothing!  There were things that happened.. things that reminded me of how He loved me and cared for me.    God reminded me how He cared for me and took care of me and held my marriage together when it should have fallen apart.  He reminded me that HE has caused my husband to have a good job in a terrible economy.   But I still felt that wasn't the "showing" of the answers to my prayer.  On day 9, I had a dream.  I dreamt that I was on a roller coaster with some of my friends...traveling to see a house she was building....

Gentle Lessons on Trusting our Good Heavenly Father

Image
Do you see it?  Do you see the bird FEEDER that a bird thought would be a perfect spot for a nest?  A pair of house finches worked for a few days as they quickly assembled their nest.  We were delighted to watch, but if the birds caught sight of us, they quickly flew away.  My sweet husband taped a piece of paper on the window so the birds couldn't see us and  would stop being afraid.    We meant them no harm, but to the birds we had to look like big, scary predators.  The birds couldn't comprehend that we were nothing to be fearful of.  God spoke to my heart and said, "That lump in your breast, the one that is hard, doesn't move.. the lump that the doctor said you have to have more tests done, more scans, ultrasounds to determine if it is breast cancer... that lump.. it is nothing to be fearful of,,  Just like you look scary to the birds, this lump looks scary to your regular doctor and you, but it is nothing.".   ...

Teaching..and learning... Compassion

Image
http://inhonoroftheking.blogspot.com/2012/03/through-trudys-eyes-her-rescue.html     I first told you about Trudy over a year ago.  She has survived horrific abuse at the hands of people. ..abuse that never would have happened if that person had ANY compassion.  Compassion. Compassion- a feeling of deep sympathy or sorrow for another who is stricken with misfortune, accompanied by the strong desire to alleviate the suffering. I want my children to have compassion and I think an easy way to start is to build a compassion towards those who have no ability to give anything... no ability to help themselves... animals.   I hope that compassion towards animals would easily bloom into compassion towards people, made in God's image.    It amazes me the example of compassion my children have been able to see from people and animals at Save The Horses.  Sweetie is an old mare that guards Trudy, the blind horse, from o...

Riding the Waves in Folly Beach

Image
We just got back from a quick 3 day trip to Folly Beach, South Carolina.  My mother in law was able to go with us and watch as the butterflies migrated down the Atlantic coast.  Here are some of the highlights... Madeline looked for special shells  Noah dug for treasure..  I peered at the ocean and worked to get a week ahead in my Bible study on David.  JohnMichael filled up bucket after bucket to make his own puddle to sit in Madeline buried herself..  Madeline fed the birds John-Michael fed the birds  She is burying her brother..  John-Michael pretends to be ashamed  that his sister made him into a merman. We stopped to smell the flowers.. Madeline, me, Noah, John-Michael, and Russell  My mother in law with me.. I am amazed that God has loves my family and me so well...and brought us so far.  I know He KNOWS the real me...yet He doesn't give up on me. ...

Casting Nets

Image
Casting Nets.  I rarely paint anything for myself.  I too often paint for friends or clients  (www.scripturepainting.com).   But, this theme/ this story has been one I have been dwelling on for the last several weeks. ...so I have tried here and there...to paint. I think this painting, "Casting nets", sums up one of my overriding life issues..... trust.  Do I trust a carpenter...to tell me, a professional fisherman, how to fish?   Read Luke 5: 1-11 and you will see what I am talking about. 5 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, [ a ] with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, 2 he saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.  4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into...

Who is your church?

Image
Part of my "church" Did you know that a Church is NOT a building?A church is the body of Christ, the people you worship with...rely on when life is hard... call when you need sound advice.   When things are difficult, I call on these people..and..... guess what? They all attend services at different church buildings...not my church building...but ......they  help me, love me, and are there for me.     I can't "meet " with them  for "church"... as they live all over Atlanta and have been placed in different buildings by God's calling/ timing.    .. So does that mean we don't need a church/ building to go to?  Well, God is very clear that we need a Church/people to worship with each Sunday.  Hebrews 10:25  Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.     Kid's of my...

Linda Dillow- Part 4- Final part/ hardest part / surrender

Image
Surrender---- what a hard word to hear/ but  so necessary for Christian life. For the last session, Linda Dillow focused on surrender and taught this by using  the book of Job and on Abraham/ Isaacs -Gen. 22 First she said Job was blameless and upright, feared God, and he shunned evil -- "There is none like him on the earth." ( Job 1:8) In ONE DAY, he lost his oxen, donkeys, and their servants to Sabean raider, his sheep and their servants to "fire from God from heaven”, his camel and their servants to Chaldean raiders, and his sons and daughters are killed in a tornado. He lost so much, but he still worshipped God. He reacted by tearing his robe, falls to the ground, and then, he worshipped. In his despair, he still praises God, even though he considers God as the One who has done all these things. He blesses the name of the Lord. He does not charge God with wrong. She then read Genesis 22: 1-14 to us. Genesis 22 Abraham Tested 1 Some time later God t...

Laura Story- The Amazing Worship leader at the Women's Retreat...

Image
Laura Story is our music minister at our church, Perimeter. She is an amazing, beautiful lady.  Sometimes, for me, it is hard to worship. It hurts so much at times, I just feel I can't....I struggle to worship in the midst of tears.  (I didn't say that was godly or right..just truthful).     She said it so well... we falsely believe that God should and Must always heal because ...well, God is loving...and God is all powerful. ..and since He is both loving and powerful, of course healing is the right answer.  Well, she addresses how we can't fathom God's ways, but we can trust in His love...even when it feels like He is holding back or that He isn't giving us His best.  Remember, our emotions will lie.  That is why we must know His word and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, especially..... when we doubt..when our emotions get the better of us.  Laura led us in amazing worship and I am so glad she was...
