Who is St. Patrick anyway? Well, it is said that St. Patrick was born Maewyn Succat in Scotland around 387 AD.     All was fine and normal for Patrick until he was kidnapped by pirates and sold as a slave to work in Ireland. Before being kidnapped, he was probably more concerned about which job to take and which girl to marry when his world was suddenly changed. It is believed that he was about the age of sixteen when he was kidnapped to be a slave, working as a shepherd.   Ireland at that time has a pagan religion which worshipped nature and even had human sacrifice.   During his years in slavery, he remembered the sermons of his grandfather who was a priest.   Maewyn recalled the sermons of his youth and he turned to Jesus.. He remembered the gospel, the good news- Christ has paid the penalty for our sins and we have this FREE gift through Him. We must only believe, repent, and follow Christ. There is so much in the news that paints Christians as unloving.  Chick-fil-a didn't attack homosexual marriage, but defended traditional marriage.  ..There are gay bars so why can't there be "Family" restaurants?  Where is the tolerance for Christians?  Our society is  bent to believe that Christians are uneducated or simple minded. (I have three college degrees..).  Our society is bent towards being intolerant to Christian principles and ideals.  Why do Christians want these ideals, beyond God said it?  Because working hard, treating people like you want to be treated, forgiving others, marriages (where no one gives up), ..are the things that are best for people.   No one wants their possessions stolen.  No one wants their children splitting time living with another spouse. No one wants their children not to have the influence of both a father and mother (as neither are replaceable).  No one wants to be treated unkindly. ...

Today, we heard a pastor preach on Acts 2 and 3.  How did Peter help the early church go from a few hundred to several thousand?  He said it is the difference between fences (the Pharisee/ the law) and water (Jesus/ grace/ mercy).   He said in America, farmers use fences to keep the cattle confined to a certain area....some times the fence is electric or barbed.   In Australia, the land is too large for fences, so how do the farmers keep the cattle close by?  Water.  They place a well in the center of the property.  He said churches try to be like the American farmers...just placing fences (focusing on the law)..instead of being like Australian farmers.... give them water... just getting people to fall in love with Jesus (just wanting to stay near the water).  He said if people understood their need for a savior, the ugliness of their sin, their inability to keep the law (even though too many of us try to fake it to look "right...

Brokenness.   This week has seemed to have a theme of brokenness. The brokenness of the world ( baby birds killed by an animal, man making food from human waste), broken friendships, broken bodies (NF, cancer), broken hearts, broken spirits, the brokenness of the spiritual hearts of people…etc.   When I think of brokenness in a believer, I think of sadness.   There is one believer that I have in mind who has been hurt by other believers.   Now that person’s heart is broken, depressed, not willing to risk getting close to believers again..
