Lessons learned the first 50 years

Image
I hit a milestone. I turned 50 years old. I am thankful that I don't feel 50.   I am thankful for things God has taught me throughout those 50 years. .  I have learned that God loves mercy and when I feel a sense that justice needs to happen over mercy, all I need to do is remember that I am thankful for when God gives me mercy instead of a just punishment.   (Micah 6:8 8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.) ( Luke 6: 36  Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. ) I have learned that hurt people end up hurting people.   When I am able to see that I didn't hurt them but I am bearing the results of that persons hurt inflicted by other people, it helps me forgive whatever hurt they pushed onto me and move on.  (Romans 12 : 18  If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. )  I have learned that anyone who thinks they have God

Never put to shame..

Does anyone else feel like our world is going crazy?  The last few days have been bad national news, bad local news, and bad personal news (not that I have been looking for any of it).  It all can make a person try to thing what is God doing? Is He sleeping?  Does He know?  Those are all old thoughts... that can sneak in there.  That's when I have to count my blessings, see what is real..not what might be... and get in His word. I was talking to a friend that other day ..that God seems to have woven the theme of Trust into my life.  I haven't wanted to trust in anyone but me.  However, thought experience and God's gentle correction, I have learned to trust only in Him. I love how Psalm 25:3 says no one who's hope is in God is put to shame. I love how Psalm 37:25-26 says King David was young and now he is old and he had never seen the righteous forsaken. Those are the things that bring me comfort when I want to revert to old ways. Philippians 2:14...Do everything w

Acts of Service... my birthday present

Here is our bedroom before. .. ..with a functional, but not so lovely ceiling fan.      I had asked Russell for a chandelier... but ..a man loooooovves his ceiling fan.  How thoughtful that he bought me a chandelier, gave up his beloved ceiling fan, and hung up the chandelier for me. ..  Did I tell you that he is NOT a fan of heights?  (No pun intended).   So the gift of a  chandelier is very nice...          However, his ...  willingness to give up his ceiling fan... priceless.  His willingness to show his love for me in this way... that's a gift. So, my husband isn't perfect, but I know he tries to love me as perfectly as any man can..  Thank you, Russ.. I will truly enjoy this gift... Love you much.    1 Corinthians 13 If I speak in the tongues [ a ] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that

The original Beauty, God himself..

I saw this quote on a cyber-friends blog... “That is, we see the glory of God , not just the glory of the heavens. We don’t just stand outside and analyze the natural world as a beam, but let the beam fall on the eyes of our heart, so that we see the source of the beauty – the original Beauty, God himself.” ~ John Piper His creation has always brought me to a place of awe and thankfulness.  I don't have to go to the ocean or to the Grand canyon.  I find awe in my own backyard..and my own community. My fish dance and play with the tadpoles and frogs that share their home.  The croaking of frogs is one of my favorite sounds of summer nights. One of my friends thoughtfully cut these hydrangeas blooms to give as a gift  to me.. just a small thing to share with me ..and show kindness.  The flowers are beautiful because of that..and because of the beauty God put into them. Why getting older is getting better...

I have been thinking about aging... I love the spunky natures of older ladies.  I love when older people tell you how they really feel ( without being mean...but not prettying it up either).  I love how older people do what they want to do without worrying about what others are going to think about it..or about them.   I love how older people do the things they really enjoy and stop doing the things that don't matter to them.   I love how interesting older faces are.   I love the stories that older people have to share.   Maybe the wrinkles and few aches and pains aren't so bad... Now, a note for my children,...wisdom for as they age...   Turning 30 was hard for me.  I think I felt that once I turned 30, I had no excuse for childish mistakes..or for childish character flaws.   Turning 40 was hard for me.. because I felt I was falling apart.  I couldn't do as many things as I liked to do in a day and I lost some of my bouncy energy.  However, I love the things God has d

What are your favorite things? What are your hobbies?

Madeline's very favorite things are horses.  She loves to groom them, to watch them, to feed them, and of course to ride them. John-Michael loves girls.   He is truly a ladies man...we didn't do it... he has always been this way. Just two days ago, he said to me.. "Mama, teach me all the sweet words that girls like to hear."  I asked him what he meant.  He said, "You know.  Girls like to hear  "sweetie, honey". "  I explained to him that if he started calling every girl those words..they would think he was creepy, not sweet.      I went on to tell him to save those words for his wife. Noah, the oldest, still says he doesn't like girls.  He enjoys playing with his friends, playing video games, and karate.  Today he took 2nd place in forms and 1st plays in sparring. My favorite?  If you have been here for a while, you know.  If you are new, I will tell you.   Gardening, bird watching, running, painting,  drinking hot te
