Lessons learned the first 50 years

Image
I hit a milestone. I turned 50 years old. I am thankful that I don't feel 50.   I am thankful for things God has taught me throughout those 50 years. .  I have learned that God loves mercy and when I feel a sense that justice needs to happen over mercy, all I need to do is remember that I am thankful for when God gives me mercy instead of a just punishment.   (Micah 6:8 8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.) ( Luke 6: 36  Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. ) I have learned that hurt people end up hurting people.   When I am able to see that I didn't hurt them but I am bearing the results of that persons hurt inflicted by other people, it helps me forgive whatever hurt they pushed onto me and move on.  (Romans 12 : 18  If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. )  I have learned that anyone who thinks they have God

A reason to be happy today... Your own smile...

This little girl will steal your heart and you are unlikely to forget her.  At the beginning of the video, you will see that she is unable to smile.. then,  Project Smile performs the surgery and you get to witness her see her OWN smile for the first time... (tears of joy...so sweet).   So, hard day?   Look at your own smile and be thankful.  ...

This couple...secret to long, happy marriage...

You can't have watched TV lately without seeing this clip.  In case you HAVEN'T seen it, here it is.  Laughter, fun, trying new things, "hanky panky" talk...which is muted out by Youtube.. :),   all keys to a happy marriage.    We promise to take care of each other... to have and to hold..sickness and in health...it is so nice to see a couple that lives by that.  (No thanks to Pat Robertson....  http://abcnews.go.com/Health/AlzheimersCommunity/pat-robertson-alzheimers-makes-divorce/story?id=14526660   Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson stunned "700 Club" viewers Tuesday when he said divorcing a spouse with Alzheimer's disease was justified.  Robertson said he wouldn't "put a guilt trip" on someone for divorcing a spouse with Alzheimer's disease, calling Alzheimer's itself "a kind of death.") Fight....laugh ...love...never give up

Are things EVER easy?

Are things ever easy?  Not if you are talking about my actual house..LOL....  In the 7 years we have been here, we have replaced gutters that were too small for the house, fixed a sink hole that formed from the builder placing lumber in my backyard, fixed a gas leak in my attic, made a permanent solution to the squirrels and such..in the attic, gutted the master bath when the "shower pan" went out, replaced all of the carpet in the entire house with hardwood floors, etc, etc...etc...  So, when I decided to change out the "shower set" in the kids shower, why did I ever think it might be easy? LOL... The builder did NOT use shower board or concrete board to adhere the tile to...he used Sheetrock...  Looks like a new tiled shower might be in the works... I am so glad for God's provision and that I am NOT saying ...this time... "What are you doing?"   (You can read the LONG version  of when I did NOT  here:  http://inhonoroftheking.blogspot.com/2008/12/tru

The Best of Football and the BEST of People...

Image
Thank goodness this is a TRUE story... It would be the first time the two teams played each other. Gainesville State played other high school football teams in other districts, but no one ever cheered for them. So Coach Hogan asked the Grapevine parents to sit on the opposing side so the Gainesville team would have fans.  In the case of the Gainesville kids, some don’t even know their parents,” Coach Hogan said. “And if they did, they couldn’t come because technically they are incarcerated. These kids have never had anyone cheer for them.” Coach Hogan printed off a roster.  “We cheered for them by name,” he said. “We divided our cheerleaders in half and formed a 40-yard ‘spirit’ line. We treated them like it was their home game.” Normally, people look at the Gainesville kids as criminals. This time, the Gainesville kids saw love, and were filled with gratitude.  Why do this?  Because when you have been hit with the gospel of Christ, you are never the same..and you NE

Better Day...

Image
Today was so much better.  The fever is gone.  It is rare for me to be sick, but when I am ..I generally have a fever for a couple of days.  Not so this time.  I just had the fever for less than 7 hours.  Amazing!  Why? Perhaps because I did a juicing just weeks ago.  Perhaps because I ran 4 miles with a weighted vest on...just hours before starting to run a fever... Yeah, yeah...some of you are going to say that's why I ran a fever. LOL... anyway, thankful..so thankful that I am feeling better. http://inhonoroftheking.blogspot.com/2011/06/gift-of-dyslexia.html If you read the above post, you will see a few months ago we found out our youngest has dyslexia.  I am doing all kinds of learning strategies to help him. One thing I am doing is having him read to me at night and then, I read to him at night.  Having been a teacher for 14 years, I have many books all over our house.  One is my favorite from when I was a kid.  I obviously haven't read it in a while...or it is just m

Starting to feel a little like JOB...

Well, I have had many issues the last two weeks : hurt feelings (me doing...and other doing), worried about one son ..physically... worried about another child...spiritually..,  worried about yet another one of my kids ..emotionally,... loss of some income in our household,  "cancer spot" on my ear... cut out... NOT CANCER...yippee (but still went through the "what ifs" occasionally...),  friends that are seriously sick, pets that are seriously sick,...and TODAY.... I have a fever...  LORD, what are you trying to tell me?  Or...is it just the stress.   Gotta be grounded.  Not grounded like when you were a teenager...but grounded ..In HIM!  That is the only thing that works.   You have my attention, LORD!  What are you trying to tell me? Psalm 146 1 Praise the LORD. [ a ] Praise the LORD, my soul. 2 I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. 3 Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.

The importance of hiding God's word in your heart...

Why should we all hide God's word in our hearts?  1. So we will not sin... I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You. (Ps. 119:11). 2. Because God commands us to hide them in our hearts.... These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. (Deut. 6:6-7) http://www.aholyexperience.com/a-bible-memorization-booklet-colossians-in-a-year-printable/ She has an excellent "printable" for memorizing the book of Colossians in a year.  I am going for it! Want to join me? Life is too hard, too unpredictable, too challenging NOT to have His word hidden in our hearts....

Wart ..be gone...

It seems to have worked... I can't believe it.  For almost 13 years, my son has had a wart on his forearm..but no more!  We have had it frozen off by the doctor 3 different times; it came back.  I used at home "freeze off" twice.  It came back.  I used the wart acid/ Salicylic acid....  It came back.  Finally, a friend told me to use nothing but apple cider vinegar.  Today is the LAST day of treatment...and it isn't there.  There is just a black scab.  I am amazed with how well it worked.  We also tried filing it, duct tape... pretty much everything.  The apple cider vinegar treatment is nice to have an inexpensive natural home remedy for such a common problem.  Try it..you have nothing to lose but your warts Procedure for the Removal of Warts  Using Apple Cider Vinegar For this simple procedure, the removal of warts using apple cider vinegar requires just 3 things: Apple Cider Vinegar Cotton balls (end of Q-tip will do) Band-aid Each night before g

Dating your spouse...

Image
I love to see my friends laugh and have fun with their spouses.  I love to see them flirt shamelessly with their spouses; if you know us, Russell and I are good at this.  I want to teach my children how to treat their spouses by our example... In their marriages, I hope they  show affection to each other and compliment each other.  What do my kids think right now?   Right now, they say ..."Ohhhhhh, yuck!".. LOL... Hopefully when they decide to get married..they will remember us, dear old Mom and Dad..and follow our example.  Tomorrow night..Date night with just my sweet husband..
